The New Year gives everyone a chance to start afresh, whether it comes to relationships, achieving personal goals, or taking care of their health. For a majority of Americans, eating healthier and getting more exercise remains the top resolution for 2018. But while it’s typical to feel optimistic at the start of the year, most people may find it a challenge to meet their goals as a study reveals that about 80% of people fail to stick to their New Year’s resolutions for longer than 6 weeks. However, if you’re serious about losing weight and fat this year, then it’s imperative to follow a fitness plan as early as January. Not only will you have more time to attain your goals, but you’ll also find that sticking to healthy habits and finding alternative ways to get fit at the start of the year can be more effective in keeping the weight off. Here are better ways to lose weight and fat in 2018.
Do some strength training
Doing a strength training routine three times a week can result in significant fat and weight loss. Moreover, as you burn fat, you also get to sculpt your body and increase the number of calories that your body burns while at rest. You don’t even need to go to the gym to do strength training—all you need is a set of dumbbells, a workout bench, and some floor space, and you’re set. Try doing 12 reps of dumbbell bench presses, 12 reps of dumbbell rows, and 15 reps of squats. End your strength training routine with a plank and try to hold it for 40 seconds while keeping your core tight.
Join a high-intensity fitness class
There’s nothing like high-intensity fitness training to melt off the fat and shed the extra pounds. Nowadays, the typical HIIT class has evolved and there are so many to choose from to suit your style and fitness level. Try a workout that combines HIIT with yoga, or a nightclub-themed class wherein you get to dance along to live DJ music. Do high-intensity fitness training at least once a week to jumpstart your weight loss.
Be more active
There are many ways to move your body that will allow you to have fun. This year, try going on a hike with a few friends or do some live action role-playing (a game of backyard Quidditch, anyone?). You should also consider rock or wall climbing, learn Parkour or martial arts, or join a softball or football league.
This year, every decision you make to improve your health counts, so try these tips to improve your workouts and have a fit body. Be consistent, eat a healthy diet, and most importantly, have fun. Soon, you’ll find that you’re much closer to achieving your fitness goals in 2018.
